Entrepreneur Offers Support for Women With Cancer

She started by donating a portion of her profits to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, then to Gilda's Club, and now she wants to do more. Margaret Thomson has added a new designer product for chemotherapy patients to her already popular line of scarves for professional women -- the "Scarf Turban." And she's not stopping there. She's also setting up a page of very focused links on her company web page that will put cancer support groups and treatment centers literally at the fingertips of her customers.

Grosse Pointe, MI (PRWEB) April 24, 2003 -- Margaret Thomson, owner of Scarves by Margaret, www.scarvesbymargaret.com, has long been a supporter of cancer patients and the programs that serve them. From having a prime role in working with Crown American malls in the 1998 Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, to donating a portion of her business profits to the Detroit Metro Gilda's Club . . . she's been more than willing to help out. But now she has a new goal . . . to go beyond just donations to cancer organizations. "I want to directly and personally touch the lives of cancer patients, especially women," says Thomson. "I want to experience what can only be felt by knowing that you've made a difference in someone's life . . . that was my inspiration in designing my new product."

Already known worldwide for her fashionably classic, and always professional L'EscarfeTM designs, Thomson has now introduced a new line of designer Turban Scarves created specifically for women suffering hair loss due to chemotherapy. Her easy-tie, easy-wear dress turbans are made with the same kind of soft, stylish fabrics and designs that have made this 70+ year old entrepreneur's L'EscarfeTM a popular accessory for professional and stylish women all over the world for almost a decade.

"Now women who need and want a head covering that will allow them to look good and feel good about their appearance throughout their cancer treatment will have a nice array of classy and professional head coverings from which to choose," says Thomson. "This is a difficult time in a woman's life. A woman's beauty is often defined by her hair, and coping with losing that part of her life even temporarily, is a challenge that often compounds the damage from the disease itself. I wanted to help these women feel pretty again . . . to help them keep their sense of fashion and pride in their appearance through a difficult time. They tell me that my new Turban Scarves do that for them, and I'm so glad!"

Thomson has also been doing some research of her own to provide women with cancer support information when they visit her company web site. "I've started a section of cancer-related links on my web site -- lists of places where patients or their families can find assistance with whatever they need from treatment options to support groups in the U.S., internationally, or in their own local areas. I feel that women searching for stylish turbans may also find the cancer links while visiting my web site, and could then find support or treatment center options that they weren't aware of previously. It's a way I can offer empathy and friendship, whether they actually buy my product or not. I have much to be thankful for in my life, so creating an accessory that aids women in recovery to feel better, and being able to provide easy access to resource information at the same time, makes me feel good -- a kind of "giving back" to use a common term. Hopefully, it will be a help to some very courageous women who are fighting mightily for their own lives, if only in the smallest way."
