West Pole Receives Waste Knot Award

Ann Arbor, MI - West Pole, Inc., an enterprise and web application development company, was recognized for its leadership in waste reduction efforts by the Washtenaw County Department of Environment and Infrastructure Services at the 6th Annual Waste Knot Awards. The event was held May 1, 2003 at Webers Inn in Ann Arbor.

Although waste reduction" doesnt exactly sound glamorous, there is good reason for companies like West Pole to take action. According to 1992 EPA studies, each person creates about 4.5 pounds of trash per day. In other words, one person will generate 2,409 pounds of trash - the weight of a small car - in only a year and a half! Considering the average time spent in the workplace, waste from even a small office contributes to the problem of waste management.

This is a second year recognition for West Pole, though you will find many of the staff are old hats" at recycling. That includes West Pole CEO, Alan Holsztynski. Hes been known to catch an employee in mid-throw to quietly explain a particular piece of trash" is actually recyclable, and has personally spearheaded recycling efforts for at least one client.

West Pole President Earl Wenk received the award and commented, Growing up in Ann Arbor, I have been fortunate to see the city recycling program grow from the start. Recycling has become a way of life in Ann Arbor, and it's a great feeling to receive an award with so many local business and community leaders – including clients of ours like McNaughton & Gunn."
