BUSINESS OF BLISS BRINGS AWARD WINNING SMALL BUSINESS INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS

London-August 16, 2002– It really was A Childs World, during the Toronto International Gift Fair. The wholesale show helped launch Michele Barrow-Belisles home based business A Childs World. The company specializes in hand painted childrens furniture, and a line of do-it-yourself kits for heirloom teddy bears, dolls, and decorative painting. She participated under the umbrella of the Uniquely Ontario Showcase, sponsored by George Little Management, LLC & dmg world media, the Royal Bank and the Bank of Montreal, to name a few. Attending the show were HGTVs Jason Cass, co-host of One House, Two Looks; and Mark Challen, creative director of Canadian House & Home Magazine. The biannual show attracts buyers from around the world, giving exhibitors like Michele international exposure and sales.

A Childs World, a new company just over 8 months old, specializes in hand painted childrens furniture, which until this event, focused mainly on custom retail orders. The decision to make the leap from retail to wholesale was an easy one. Id like my work to be enjoyed by as many people as possible" claims Michele, the owner, artist and designer. One look at her painted furniture, and you immediately envision the bedrooms of children of celebrities. Her designs appeal to young and old alike, and strive to capture the essence of childhood". The scenes painted on such pieces as headboards, benches and lamps, are soft and enchanting, with colours that create a sense of comfort and tranquility. The business recently expanded with the addition of heirloom teddy bear and doll patterns and kits, and decorative painting patterns and designs, all uniquely packaged for the gift market. With a charming booth displaying such unique beautiful products, it is clear why she won the award for Best Integrated Booth Design, which was presented by a representative from Ontario Exports Inc. I was overwhelmed by the positive response!" exclaims Michele, It was exciting to be well received by so many different retail markets, with product lines as diverse as mine." When asked if her success came as a surprise, she stated cheerfully, Yes, but this business venture is my dream come true, and when you live your dream, you have to believe that great things will happen. But I still pinch myself everyday though... just to make sure!"

The corporate sponsored area of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre buzzed with activity. Over 7000 international buyers from retail outlets shared lively exchanges with new entrepreneurs, who welcomed the opportunity to reach a much wider market than they could from their home communities. The enthusiastic response to the show is proof that large-scale success is within reach for home-based businesses.
