The designer of a new legal software program says legislative staff employees and people in the regulatory compliance industry do not have to waste valuable company time pulling out a calendar to count the number of days after the governor approves of a measure to determine its effective date.
Instead, with LegisCalculate(TM), users can select one of three actions taken by the Legislature, the governor, or the Secretary of State, enter the number of months or days to add after an action, and instantly obtain the effective date of a law with the touch of a button.
I am extremely happy about LegisCalculate(TM)," says Tina Crum, the program designer, who pitched the concept to software developer Aleksey Kazanskiy, M.S.I.T. LegisCalculate(TM) uses common sense mathematical functions to bring a more efficient technology tool to the workplace."
While some laws are either effective upon ratification or on a specific date, other laws require people to literally count 60 days or in extreme cases 90 days after a particular legislative action is taken on it.
Who has the time or who even wants to spend the time counting dates on a job?" added Crum. I think regulatory staff members will be satisfied to learn that there is now something out there specifically tailored to make their jobs a whole lot easier and reduce errors associated with miscounting."
LegisCalculate(TM) includes two bonus charts:
a state-by-state chart of effective dates of laws along with citations to specific legislative and constitutional authorities; as well as
a state-by-state chart of bill status telephone numbers and state legislative web sites. The software user can access the state legislative web site directly from the program by clicking on a hyperlink.
LegisCalculate(TM) is ideally suited for legislative staff employees and persons working in the regulatory compliance industry. A downloadable alpha version of the software is available for purchase for $25. Site licenses are also available for companies that are interested in installing the software on more than one computer. Prices start at $18 per computer.
