MARKING AND CODING SPECIALIST, IMAJE OPENS WORLD-CLASS INK FACTORY

Coding and marking specialist, Imaje SA - the parent company of Imaje UK, have invested over 10 million in a new dedicated ink production and distribution unit based in France. The new facility separates the making of ink and consumables from ink jet printer production. This will allow the company to give a more responsive service to existing Imaje printer users in the UK.

Covering nearly 60,000 square feet, the new factory is the most advanced in the world. Manufacturing conforms to ISO9000 quality systems and ISO1400 environmental standards. A special recovery system recycles any solvent released during manufacture. This makes losses to the environment negligible and, combined with the lean plant-wash regime, the overall design minimises solvent use.

Reflecting speed of change in the industry and the priority Imaje places on meeting customer needs, almost 15 per cent of the new factory is devoted to research and development of new products. The logistics department is part of the same dedicated operation. This unit manages inventory to make sure fresh supplies of every class of product can be quickly sent to Imaje customers world-wide.

The company has pioneered many new ink technologies. These have included inks that are safe for incidental food contact and even totally food safe inks for direct marking of products such as cheese. Other special products include inks for eggs and for tinned goods that will tolerate oils and food residues on the can. Heat sensitive thermographic inks have been developed to give visual confirmation that a food product has been pasteurised properly.
