Pismo Beach, CA- Several months ago, California Jeweler, Amy Peters found herself in an unfamiliar situation. Versions of her inspirational charms were discovered in a small boutique near her home. The counterfeit charms were molded and cast from her original jewelry designs. The charms feature some of Amy Peters? Studio?s most popular designs including: Dream, Wish, Make Waves, Climb High and Follow Your Heart. Peters? took immediate action by contacting the owner of the store, who in turn provided her with the contact information she needed to confront the maker of the counterfeit jewelry. Ultimately, the makers admitted their fault and sent Peters all of the counterfeit charms and molds for her to do with them as she saw fit.

Because the imposter charms didn?t meet Peters? quality standards she would not sell them as her own. In search of what good could come from this learning experience Peters chose to create jewelry making kits including the imitation charms, beads and instructions to make necklaces and bracelets. These kits will be donated to various hospitals across the nation to be given out to children aged 3-18 who are patients at the hospitals. Peters? plans on donating approximately 1000 jewelry kits per year in an ongoing effort to benefit communities.

Discovering these charms came at an ideal time for Peters, who was looking for a way to give back to the community. Before her career as a jewelry designer, Peters worked at a hospital and noticed how easily children can become depressed and bored during a hospital stay. Looking back on this experience Peters feels "The jewelry making kits will restore some of the happiness that can be lost in children who are battling diseases, illnesses or other injuries." Most of all Peters? hopes "It will give the children an outlet of creativity where they can escape the boredom of hospitals stays."
