"Survivor" for CEOs? Or the newest way to improve a business?

With new reality shows cropping up weekly, it was only a matter of time before the medium migrated to the business world. CEOSailing(TM) is the first reality- based training program for executives.

With new reality shows cropping up weekly, it was only a matter of time before the medium migrated to the business world. CEOSailing(TM) is the first reality- based training program for executives.

As the name implies, it involves four CEOs and a 50-foot sailing yacht. There, CEOs and business owners compete for the coveted Captain's Hat. Like the various survival shows, the setting is exotic, the waters of the British Virgin Islands. Also similar, as the CEOSailing captain states, is the fact that, "this ain't no vacation".

But, the similarities end there. There are no TV cameras, wild boars, or exhibitionists and the purpose of the program, rather than stellar ratings, is stellar improvement in the participants' businesses. Is this just another adventure outing or team building exercise? "No," says John Stewart, CEO of CEOSailing. "This is a totally new concept in reality-based executive training programs. We first conduct an analysis of each CEO's business to determine the actual operating environment for that executive. This allows us to tailor the program to create a simulation of that environment onboard the boat and help identify the main issues to be addressed. It is all customized to fit the participating CEO's needs." He further explains, "We chose the sailboat as the platform for the training because, on a boat, especially such as large a one as this, decisions and their consequences occur by the minute as opposed to in the real world, where they can take weeks, months, or years."

It is also notable that this program was designed from the ground up for CEOs, not for sailors. "In fact," says Stewart, "executives who have never sailed get the added benefit of experiencing, first hand, what new employees in their business face in terms of trying to assimilate a new job, new terminology, and a new environment. Regardless of the level of sailing experience, each CEO works his way up through the ranks and gets a full day as captain of the boat."

Trips are scheduled regularly with CEOs around the country, matched-up based on experience, business issues, and industry. Additional information about their programs is available at www.ceosailing.com. Contact at info@ceosailing.com or 877-877-7747.
