Guest Comments on Devastation of War
Newton, MA, May 13, 2003: Ben Tafoya and Dennis Tafoya co-hosts of The Emerging Majority, a new radio program adding a politically progressive voice to metro Boston, announced that the show has booked more news making guests. This week for our show airing May 16, 2003 and May 18 we will be joined by Dr. Bob Edgar, General Secretary of The National Council of Churches. Dr. Edgar is one of the leading voices for a peaceful foreign policy in America today." says Ben Tafoya.
Dr. Edgar was a breath of fresh air when he represented suburban Philadelphia in Congress for twelve years. We need his voice today to counter the culture of permanent war emanating from Washington. " adds Dennis Tafoya.
In a recent paper on peaceful foreign policy in light of the war against Iraq Dr. Edgar wrote, The collateral damage from this war - to thousands of families, to property, to our international reputation, to our national budget priorities - has been enormous." He goes on to write, But millions of Americans - as well as countless others around the world -- believe there is another, better way. We believe the United States can exercise global leadership in pursuit of peace, justice, freedom and human dignity for all persons. . Also on this weeks show is bestselling author Alan Furst, whose eight published novels include Blood of Victory" and Kingdom of Shadows".
Upcoming guests on May 22, 2003 include Jonathan Schell, author of the newly published book The Unconquerable World". He will join the brothers for a discussion of the future of war and diplomacy in the face of continued nuclear proliferation.
The show, which debuted on April 11, 2003, aims to create an on-air community for people who are passionate about economic democracy, peaceful foreign policy and human rights. The brothers have had business careers of twenty years each in the technology sector. "We think we have a unique approach to progressive politics based on working in the private sector for so long", says Dennis Tafoya. "We want to invite the community in Eastern Massachusetts to join a conversation about politics, film, literature and the arts that has been going on between us for most of our lives."
The Tafoya's also offer their nominations for Goat of the Week and Hero of the Week recognizing individuals who have contributed to recent news. The shows conclude with The End Times offering the personal views of the hosts on books, films, music and the arts of interest to the progressive community.
