Birthdays are always special events, but this year, Jacqueline Burt Henkel's birthday, is a truly joyous occasion. In addition to celebrating one more year as a multiple stroke survivor on June 27, she will have achieved a lifelong dream with the release of her book All My Goodbyes.
All My Goodbyes is a collection of letters written by Burt Henkel to those she loves, living and deceased. In an effort to leave loving personal messages, Mrs. Henkel soon discovered she had created a venue in which a much more important message could be delivered. Her hope, to raise stroke awareness among the general public, is expressed in her shared experience as a stroke victim. Her story speaks clearly and movingly to victims, family members and caregivers.
As a multiple stroke survivor, Henkel takes readers through her life and the lives of her family and friends as she says a heartfelt good-bye to each one in a personal letter. Jacqueline's letters are interspersed with a narration full of life that recalls the happy times and memories held dear. Readers come to love this family of Corkers, laughing with their sense of humor and seeing loved ones in their personalities.
All My Goodbyes has been called "refreshingly honest [and] unabashedly affectionate"; "powerful and personal, touching and tragic, insightful and infinitely valuable"; and "surprisingly witty and uplifting." It's a book that will make you appreciate the world around you, without preaching or pontificating -- but with heartfelt, homey tenderness.
