Swapcoms MyPhoneSettings seduces major Telecom Operators as Orange France

With Swapcom technology, Orange France subscribers can now automatically configure their mobile phones to access WAP, GPRS, MMS services, as well as receive their e-mails.

Lyon, France (PRWEB) June 3rd, 2003 – Swapcom, leading European provider of mobile software systems, provides MyPhoneSettings, its remote handset configuration solution, to Orange France, the main telecom operator in France.

Configuring a mobile phone to access WAP, GPRS and MMS services or simply to consult emails while on the move often proved to be a difficult and cumbersome operation. First, users had to look for the appropriate menu in their handset, find out the right parameters and then manually enter them on their keypad. For mobile phones purchased SIM-free, the complex handset configuration was known to be one of the main obstacles for the take-off of mobile internet services.

Thanks to the software powered by Swapcom, Orange France now enables its customers to automatically and remotely configure their handset just by calling the operators customer care or by visiting Oranges portal (www.orange.fr – section ‘mon mobile/configuration). The user simply supplies basic information and selects the needed configuration (Standard WAP, WAP GRPS, MMS or email). After confirmation, he will receive an SMS which automatically parameters his mobile phone. The solution also enables Orange France customers to read and answer their personal emails directly from their mobile phones.

MyPhoneSettings is compatible with a wide range of handsets available on the market. This enables Orange France to provide all its customers a simple access to its multimedia mobile portal.

In concrete terms, Orange France monitors close to 20.000 new settings download monthly since the implementation of Swapcom's system in October 2002, a clear sign of a significant increase in new active users of interactive multimedia services.

Moreover, Orange France witnesses a reduction in time spent by its customer care agents solving handset provisioning problems, representing cost savings of close to 180 000 € monthly thanks to a decrease in calls.

« MyPhoneSettings has been a real success with mobile operators worldwide. Like Orange France, our customers results and field experience are very enthusiastic. MyPhoneSettings goal to facilitate the access and boost the use of the new mobile data services is reached" precises Olivier Graëff, Swapcom CEO. For Orange France and for Swapcom, this has been a highly successful operation.
