Local Student Wins $10,000 Scholarship

Catherine Robbs, a Junior Achievement (JA) student from Winston-Salem, N.C. has been awarded the 2003 Office Depot Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to top high school seniors who participated in a JA program. Catherine, a recent graduate from RJ Reynolds High School has been an active participant in the JA Company Program.

Special Check Presentation to Be Held at Office Depot Store in Winston-Salem on June 12

Winston-Salem, NC (PRWEB) June 10, 2003 -— Catherine Robbs, a Junior Achievement (JA) student from Winston-Salem, N.C. has been awarded the 2003 Office Depot Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to top high school seniors who participated in a JA program. Catherine, a recent graduate from RJ Reynolds High School has been an active participant in the JA Company Program.

A special check presentation recognizing Catherines achievement will be held at Office Depots retail store located at 7774 North Point Boulevard in Winston-Salem on Thursday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. RJ Reynolds High School Principal Stan Elrod and Superintendent, Dr. Don Martin will join Office Depot executives and Junior Achievement Board Chair, Ben Barras at the event.

The Office Depot scholarship consists of a $10,000 award to students who have demonstrated superior academic achievement, leadership skills, and active participation in JA. The award may be used for education expenses at any accredited post-secondary educational institution for any field of study.

We are proud of our partnership with JA and happy to help provide educational support to outstanding students like Catherine," said Mike Kiernan, District Manager for Office Depots Winston-Salem region. We wish her the best of luck as she strives to further her educational goals and career aspirations."

This is the first year that Office Depot has offered these scholarships. The $10,000 award will be given to six students nationwide, one from each Office Depot region.

It is outstanding JA students like her who are a shining example of how hard work and determination lead to success in a students educational career and later in life in their professional career."

This scholarship is a wonderful way to recognize her hard work throughout her academic career and I know she will continue to excel in college. We think that Catherine is an outstanding and inspirational representation of Junior Achievement ideals".

Catherine ranked in the top 1% of her class and was extremely active in school, including as a member of the Spanish Club and a Student Government representative. She volunteers in the community by serving as a camp counselor at a camp for underprivileged children and participates on the cheerleading team. Catherine will enroll at the University of North Carolina in the fall majoring in either English or Journalism.

I am grateful to Junior Achievement for allowing me the opportunity in high school to learn more about myself and my goals for the future through their project. Thank you to both JA and Office Depot for this scholarship which will enable me to pursue these goals by continuing my education in college," said Catherine.
