LOCAL SCHOOL WINS 2003 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Phoenix, AZ – June 22, 2003 Local Arizona Taekwondo Team wins the 2003 USA World Taekwondo Championships in Las Vagas, NV. The team of 28 competitors was lead by Sergio Camacho, owner and Grandmaster of Korean Karate Institute. The team competed in events for Self Defense, Freestyle Forms, Point Sparring, Taekwondo, Mix Team, and Continous Sparring and brought home 24 1st Place Trophies and 25 2nd thru 3th Places for a grand total of 49 trophies. The team also won the overall championship.
Winning 1st Place events were Juan Borquez, Maleny Gomez, Denise Nunez, Emiliano Gallardo, Janice Nunez, Ivan Melendez, Gabriel Alba, Daniel Allen, Yaskara Barbosa, Irving Felix, Victor Arredondo, Victor Castro, Andres Preciado, Bernardo Porchini, Annabely Adame, Jorge Torres, Paulina Sanchez, and Phylicia Bryant.
Winning 2nd or 3rd Place events were Kaylin Heisler, Juan Monge, Julio Camacho, Gustavo Serrano, Travelle Hobley, Roberto Reyes, Carmen Vingochea, Carlos Camacho, Manny Ramirez, and Kalisha Bryant.
"All the competitors did an excellent job and I am very proud of our team" Says Sergio Camacho. "Our school strives for excellence in everything we do and not only in competition. The martial arts build skills that all students can apply in everyday life, whether it is in school, work or personal relationships."
