Artists of Note Show Work at Jammin' Java

Music inspires new art. Artist creates pastels of musicians as they perform on stage at the Jammin' Java in Vienna, VA.

McLean, VA (PRWEB) July 5, 2003 -- Original pastels of musicians by Northern Virginia artist Karen Francis are at the Jammin' Java at 231 Maple Avenue E. in Vienna, Virginia. Her works, along with other area artists are filling the walls.

From the audience's point of view, Karen's pastels are now on the red guitar-shaped wall design on the right hand side of the stage. The 9" x 12" pastels are on paper and are matted. The drawings feature musicians who have performed at the Monday Night Open Mike there. Many of the musicians are well known performers at various venues around metropolitan VA/DC/MD. Some come from as far away as NY and GA to play at the Jammin' Java.

One of Karen's Limited Edition Prints on paper, "What's the Resolution?" is also on exhibit and for sale. When the lights are up you can take in the art, and also catch the musical act of the evening. Live music plays there nearly seven nights a week, with a cover price of $8.00-$12.00 after 8 pm in the concert area.

The pastels are created as the musicians play on stage, usually singing two songs for a total of only eight minutes. The artist, Karen, sits in the dimly lit audience and rapidly records her impression of the performers. Afterwards, sometimes weeks or months later, she develops them further and sprays them with pastel fixative. They are preserved in hand cut mats specially prepared at Goellers Office Supply located upstairs in the Chain Bridge Shopping Center in McLean, Virginia and wrapped for presentation.

Anyone interested in purchasing the drawings, or in being captured on canvas while performing music, contact the artist, Karen Francis of Art Promotions, Inc. at 703 893-7482.
