Two New Christian SF Novels by Rick Sutcliffe

Writer's Exchange ePublishing and Arjay Books announce the publication of the second and third novels in Rick Sutcliffe's Irish Christian SF series The Interregnum.

     Volume 2, The Friends, tells the story of two generations of closely bonded royals. One are those of the second generation following the deposition of James. They become Kilkarney's most famous (and then most infamous) graduating class, participating on both sides of the battle of Glenmorgan. The others are the graduates of Mara's New schools in the following generation. Can either group save Hibernia from despots, chaos, or civil war? Not if clan MacCarthy and their allies have anything to say about it. Perhaps deposed King James IV can lend his relatives and descendents a helping hand in the background.

     Volume 3, The Exile, continues the story of Katherina/Karina as she seeks her vengeance on Sean Reilly, now High Lord Donal XII. But revenge turns out to be not quite what she expected. Meanwhile, Sheana, the infant she rescued from the sinking of The Scotia, grows up on the run, finds interesting friends of her own, and is drawn into the royal struggle against the genocidal MacCarthys. Meghan/Mara develops her Friends of the Day against the time when she may be able to take revenge of her own, and we follow her adventures in Afghanistan, Rome, and finally at Tara.

A third story strand follows Day MacAllister, exiled on Tirdia following one of the many coups at Tara. Taught the fantastic story of an alternate earth and trained in its military ways by bluff and mysterious foster father Angus, Day longs to find life's meaning in the context of a real family, but the search leads to escalating violence, and the discovery that Angus' mythical world of Hibernia is all too real. Interleaved and intersecting with these stories is the tale of Kilkarney's famous grads of 1989. In the dying days of the elite cadet school's glory, Cole, Cath, and Maeve make their class almost as famous (but less infamous) as an earlier group of friends made the one of 1968.

     The Friends and The Peace are sequels to the acclaimed initial volume in the series, The Peace, which was a best seller with its original eBook publisher and earned a rave review from prestigious Analog magazine.

     Sutcliffe's fiction appeals to fans of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. It incorporates a Christian world view into a story where a high-tech society has developed very differently from ours. This is soft science fiction, sword but not sorcery, good clean reading, and an exciting, fast-paced page turner.

     Formerly a high school teacher, Rick Sutcliffe is currently Professor of Mathematics and Computing Science at Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C. His other work includes a computer programming text, newspaper and magazine columns, lectures and a text on ethical and social issues in technology, and numerous published articles and papers.
