Highly Affected, Rarely Considered
July 29th 2003 - Introducing the global launch of the International Youth Parliament's (IYP) Commission Report on the Impacts of Globalization on Young People. This report is unique in the sense that it is the first time that the youth of the world have had a voice on an international issue, and brought their solutions forward. In fact, very few resources discuss the impact of globalization on world youth, a group that is highly affected but rarely considered.
Written by young people from their perspective, and adding a new viewpoint to the globalization debate, July 29th 2003 marks the global launch of the much-anticipated International Youth Parliaments (IYP) Commission Report on the Impacts of Globalization on Young People.
The IYP report is an initiative of Oxfam Community Aid Abroad and a number of other organizations and institutions around the world. The process has involved such achievements as the researching, consulting, and eventual publishing of the Youth Guide to Globalization. The distribution of the Guide to various young people and youth organization called for submissions on globalization issues. The more than 400 responses were compiled and analysed. Eleven key issues were then identified and included in the report produced by various organizations globally.
This report is unique in the sense that it is the first time that the youth of the world have had a voice on an international issue. In fact, very few resources discuss the impact of globalization on world youth, a group that is highly affected but rarely considered.
By basing the chapters on the responses of the surveys, the authors gave the young people of the world, a united voice and a chance to be part of the solution.
The report will be distributed to governments, multi-nationals, corporations, NGOs, and other decision making bodies. To obtain a copy of the report, contact International Youth Parliament, Oxfam Community Aid Abroad on 61-2-8204-3900 or via e-mail or visit our website www.iyp.oxfam.org.
Young people are finally addressing the issue of globalization on a global scale. Together with your generous support, we can make a world of a difference.
