Chautauqua Forum Series Presents: FILM MAKERS - A VIEW FROM BEHIND THE LENS with Michael Conti and Philip Solomon. Each will screen a short film, and compare their poetic approaches to metaphorical thinking in film and sound, on Monday, August 11 - 6:00 P.M., in Boulder, Colorado (9th Street and Baseline) at the Community House.
Join Philip Solomon and Michael Conti for a remarkable evening. Each will screen a short film, and compare their poetic approaches to metaphorical thinking in film and sound.
Philip Solomon is an acclaimed experimental filmmaker and professor at the University of Colorado in Boulder. His short films explore memory and evoke a powerful world of dreams. Combining personal and found footage, composing soundtracks from collaged music and sound, Solomon re-photographs, edits and chemically manipulates his films to create intense visual poems. They are intimate in scale but epic in feel, emotion and meaning.
Michael Conti is an awarding winning and prolific filmmaker, and was mentored by Stan Brakhage for his first 16mm film. Michaels subtle eye and fluid camera are friends to everyday subjects. Much like a hawk, he is sensitive to every motion. Honing in on a chosen theme, he goes beyond the story and into the poignant moments. His thoughtful films have been called "addictive."
