Out in Jersey," The New Jersey Gay News Magazine Announces Deadlines for 2004

The New Jersey gay magazine with more New Jersey gay news, more New Jersey gay groups, more New Jersey gay activities, and more New Jersey gay fun, announces how to get your New Jersey gay events listed in our New Jersey gay calendar, both on-line and in print.

Trenton, NJ-Heres how to get your New Jersey gay event or New Jersey GLBTI group meeting listed in the Out in Jersey" Magazines Diverting Diversions New Jersey gay calendar of events.

Never heard of us? Well, were new since 2002! Out in Jersey" Magazine is a bimonthly 88+ page magazine that is committed to our GLBTI readers throughout New Jersey, plus Philadelphia and Bucks County, PA. We are the largest and most read publication in, for and about New Jerseys rainbow / gay / GLBTI / queer community. Out in Jersey" Magazine includes gay news, analysis, politics, opinion, cartoons, upcoming gay event listings, arts, and entertainment, always with the New Jersey gay community in mind. And, best of all, Out in Jersey" Magazine is a 100% gay-owned business.

Out in Jersey" Magazine is published six times a year; consequently, we have six deadlines per year. UNFORTUNATELY for everyone (us included!), this means that in some cases we need to know about an event almost three months in advance in order to include it in the print magazines calendar.

Virtually ALL events we receive are entered into the New Jersey Calendar of Gay Events, which can be found at

So if you miss the deadline, send it anyway. Well add it to the on-line calendar and try to include it (if it is a recurring event) in the next edition of the print magazine.

Most of the events that are listed in Out in Jersey" Magazine appeared first in the New Jersey Calendar of Gay Events. As the magazines web site is developed (see http://www.outinjersey.net to see the current site), the New Jersey Calendar of Gay Events will be migrated in whole or in part to the magazines web site.

Here are the calendar deadlines for the next six issues. In general, these are also the deadlines for press releases, advertisements, letters to the editor-anything you might want to get into the pages of Out in Jersey" Magazine.

August 21, 2003 for the October/November 2003 issue
October 21, 2003 for December 2003/January 2004 issue
December 21, 2003 for the February/March 2004 issue
February 21, 2004 for the April/May 2004 issue
April 21, 2004 for June/July 2004 issue (the big PRIDE issue!)
June 21, 2004 for the August/September 2004 issue

The Diverting Diversions deadlines will be adhered to; we cannot make exceptions. After a year of putting out the magazine, we know we need the entire five weeks of lead time to get it out the door and into our readers hands on the first day of each new issue.

What kind of events are we seeking? Ones that are by, for or include New Jersey GBLTI people, and are not strictly profit-making ventures. Certainly, the regularly scheduled or special events of any NJ GLBTI group, whether formal or casual, religious or secular, mild or wild, are what we are seeking. We also strongly encourage NJ GLBTI artists and performers to send us notices of openings, gigs, performances, signings, readings, whatever. See past issues of the magazine or check out the NJ Gay Calendar of Events and youll see its a fairly broad spectrum of events.

What probably arent going to make it into the calendar are strictly for-profit events that have no other redeeming feature. So, half-price drink night at Club Whatever isnt going to get a free listing in the print calendar. But, if the NJ GLBTI Big Livers" group meets regularly at Club Whatever, thats okay. And (for instance), we sometimes list for-profit event about which there is a lot of interest, such as the upcoming dance party Gay Day" at Six Flags Great Adventure.

The information MUST AT MINIMUM include a date, a time, a street address or general location, a contact e-mail or telephone number, a brief description of the event at its targeted audience (men only, women only, everyone welcome, age range, whatever) and costs associated with participating. Listings will be edited for space.

We make exceptions because we can, and (unlike our deadlines) our policies are cast in the firmest of Jell-O. They WILL change over time. We do not, can not and WILL NOT guarantee inclusion in the Diverting Diversions section to anyone or any group for any reason at any time. As we have very limited space, we must have the flexibility to drop or add events without notice. So far, it hasnt happened, but it will, and so we dont want to set any unrealistic expectations.

Thus, if your event MUST appear in Out in Jersey" Magazine, or if it MUST appear exactly as written, we can only recommend that you purchase an advertisement. We have ad sizes available to fit every budget, and we further discount ads for non-profit groups.

Out in Jersey is distributing more than 6,000 magazines each issue in New Jersey, as well as New York City, Philadelphia and Bucks County, Pennsylvania. We are the largest New Jersey-based and distributed gay publication. Our ad rates are very competitive. A six-issue contract can reach more than 36,000 readers and cost you just $237.60 for an 1/8 page size ad.
