"NEW CHILDREN'S PROJECT HELPING TO BRIDGE THE GAP...MONSTER ROCKERS, Redefining Children's Music"
Cleveland, Ohio--An Ohio based company is looking to "Redefine Children's Music" using pop music and an animated cast of musicians, the Monster Rockers are ready to make their appearance on the music scene with their debut Project.
Monster Rockers, Inc. has just released their first CD and acompanying 30 page comic book aimed at children five to 11 years old. ($14.99, 45 minute CD http://www.monsterrockers.com). The Package provides not only entertainment for this age group; it provides them valuable life lessons in the process.
Monster Rockers first endeavor consists of an audio CD featuring 11 tracks plus the narrations of every story contained within the book. The music is performed by the "Monster Rockers"--cartoon characters developed by the company to reach out to it's young audience.
"We could have performed the music as adults," says Monster creator Michael Durkay, "But it was our feeling that cartoon characters were better suited for capturing the attention and imagination
of the children."
Each Monster Rocker is defined by a different character trait, ranging from intelligence to humor to confidence, and all are designed to be positive role models for youngsters. They are featured in stories that are educational, character building, and giving children insights into how to solve problems they may face in everyday life.
"Monster's Theme" introduces the 5 characters in the band. The track titled "Boys and Girls" stresses that girls are on an equal level with boys. "There's No I in TEAM" introduces the concept of working together towards a common goal so that all may share in the outcome. Making the right choice based on good judgment is the topic of "Peer Pressure". Lastly "Kaleidoscope" covers the issue of racism through the perspective of a child. Are any of these issues relevant in today's society?
"The vast majority of children's music is produced for children under the age of five," says Durkay, "We feel childhood extends beyond that scope. Our music is intended for kids who have outgrown traditionally produced children's music but are not yet mature enough to understand the content of today's popular music. By applying the method of which pop music is constructed and keeping the content within the context of childhood, I believe we have a program of tremendous potential."
The group has performed many interactive shows in Cleveland area schools where children were invited to voice their opinions and share their ideas on the subject matter at hand. "It is our contention that children love to think, to be stimulated mentally and emotionally and have a need to be heard," according to Durkay, "The Monster Rockers are simply a vehicle which kids can express themselves. Our stories present a situation, the music helps paint a bigger picture, and it is the children's thoughts and ideas which are expressed that are incredibly insightful and significant."
The music and stories behind the MONSTER ROCKERS are available on the bands website http://www.monsterrockers.com The audio is in it's entirety and it is absolutely FREE.
