GARRISON, Utah (PRWEB) August 5, 2003
Matt Parker, atop his horse, Smokey, have successfully made their way through the unrelenting terrain of Nevada, and are now trudging east into Utah, along the American Discovery Trail (ADT).
With more than 500 miles traveled, Matt and Smokey are headed towards the grueling and desolate Ferguson and Wah Wah Deserts located in western Utah. This seldom-used section of the ADT will test the two physically and mentally due to lack of vegetation and water.
ÂGetting through Nevada was challenging for me and Smokey, said Matt, ÂMy maps werenÂt completely accurate and there were times when I wasnÂt sure if I was on the right path. But after some trial and error, we made it through.Â
While Matt and Smokey were in Nevada, representatives from the ADT went out to Utah to scout the trail, in order to provide GPS points for Matt and update the turn-by-turn directions on its website.
ÂUtah is a land of great contrasts with deserts, high plateaus, mountains and spectacular canyons, said Dick Bratton, vice president of Public Relations for the American Discovery Trail. ÂThe trail goes through remote parts of Utah and provides a diverse and memorable experience. Matt has proven himself to be a superior navigator and we believe he will complete Utah and continue on the ADT.Â
After the back-to-back deserts, Matt and Smokey will have to cross a series of high plateaus and the Henry Mountains before reaching UtahÂs colorful canyon country and eventually, Colorado.
Matt anticipates completing the 600 miles of the ADT through Utah in 30 days.
Updates and details of this record journey will be posted on Matt and SmokeyÂs website at http://www.mattandsmokey.com.
