Hall of Fame Inductee Teams Up with NFLPA Houston
Former Houston Oiler Elvin Bethea is already using his Hall of Fame Induction to help others. His former coach A. O. "Bum" Phillips pitches in for youth.
(PRWEB) August 5, 2003 -- Former Houston Oiler Elvin Bethea is already using his Hall of Fame induction to help others. The NFLPA Houston and Bethea will raise funds for Special Olympics and other youth charities with the Elvin Bethea Hall of Fame Induction Celebrity Golf Tournament on Monday, August 11, 2003 at Augusta Pines Golf Club, located at 18 Augusta Pines in Spring, Texas. Registration begins at 9 am with a shot gun start at 10 am. The tournament ends with an awards ceremony, silent auction, and reception.
NFLPA Houston Chapter President Curtis Duncan, a former Houston Oiler wide receiver shared his thoughts during a recent membership meeting, "This event is a prelude to the 2004 Super Bowl. It is an honor and testimony about the kind of individual Elvin is." He adds, " I am proud to know him."
NFLPA Marketing Director Kevin Brown, owner of Epiphany Sports announced, " We have coaches and retired players participating from practically every NFL team. Elvin's Oiler coach, O. A. "Bum" Phillips quickly accepted our invitation to attend the event."
The tournament kicks-off with a VIP reception and silent auction on Sunday, August 10 at the Empire Room, 909 Texas Avenue. Celebrity golfers will attend. The public is invited.
Major event sponsors include DeMontrond Automotive, Super Club Resorts, and Continental Airlines.
Bethea will be enshrined into the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio on Sunday, August 3, 2003. He was drafted from North Carolina A & T in 1968. He is considered the best draft choice in Oiler franchise history. Bethea played with the Oilers for 15 years. He is currently holds an executive position with Anhueser Busch in Houston.
The Retired Players organization became a division of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) in 1984. It serves as an active voice for former players of all ages. Membership is open to all players who signed an NFL contract. There are 31 chapters nationwide with organized leadership and regular meetings.
