Houston, TX (PRWEB) August 24, 2003 -– Network Box USA, Inc. the exclusive US distributor of Network Box, announces its success in shielding its customer base from all attacks exploiting the Microsoft Vulnerability MS03-026. Concurrently, Network Box has been able to protect against the I-Worm.Sobig.f worm that has just appeared in the past 72 hours, and is proving to be much more infectious than previous variants of the same Internet worm.
This worm is overloading corporate mail servers with the sheer volume of messages produced. Network Box proactively blocked Worm.Win32.Lovesan virus (aka Blaster) through its Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) system to protect its customers within hours of the Microsoft vulnerability announcement on July 16, 2003.
The IDP signature developed by Network Box was pushed to every Network Box at its worldwide customers within minutes of its publication. Network Box all-in-one Internet security appliance provided complete protection to its customer base before the outbreak of the Blaster virus that has caused havoc worldwide in just a few hours.
The Network Box Network Operation Centers around the world have been recording an increase in tcp/135 probes from the Internet since August 10, 2003. We were seeing a 3500% increase in probing activity on this port," said Mark Webb-Johnson, Technical Director of Network Box Corporation, Ltd. The normal (baseline) probe rate for tcp/135 is 20 probes per Network Box per day. We were seeing rates exceeding 700 probes per Network Box per day," added Mr. Webb-Johnson. The probing activity was caused by the spread of a new worm Blaster which exploits the DCOM vulnerability published by Microsoft in MS03-026.
Network Box also has anti-virus signatures, blocking actual copies of the viruses Worm.Win32.Lovesan,Worm.Win32.Welchia, I-Worm.Sobig.f. These anti-virus signatures have been pushed out to all Network Box appliances worldwide. Welchia is a variant of Blaster. I-Worm.Sobig.f a new variant of the Sobig Internet Worm. Live statistics show this new Sobig variant as three times more prevalent as the old variants.
In spite of the increase attack activities on our customer base, Network Box did not experience any denial of service, which provides uptime and increase productivity to our customer," said Pierluigi Stella, Network Box USA Director of Technical Services.
In todays tech-driven marketplace, nothing is safe. Existing security initiatives are hardly sufficient. Network Box, a remotely managed, all-in-one solution a leading Internet Threat Protection Solution has successfully blocked over 140 million Internet threats since inception. No matter how big or small your business is, total network security should be part of your company policy," said James E. Apple, Network Box USA CEO.
