Vintage: Common Ground for Mainstream Fashion
You are what you wear! How much of ourselves is defined by the choice of our clothing. An area of the Garment Industry which seems to have attracted a broad audience is Vintage Clothing. For years there have been dedicated Vintage shoppers but within the last few years this unique fashion niche has been embraced by the public at large. Explore the world of Vintage clothing and accessories with us at Tangerine Boutique.
(PRWEB) August 27, 2003 -- Fashion always has and always will play an integral role in the culture we live in. In a sense it is a language unto itself. Most of us are unaware of the way we communicate through our clothing. We know what we prefer to wear (AND not to wear) but seldom do we give the reasons much thought.
What we wear can speak about everything from our political views to our own self worth. It would be unlikely that a Young Republican” would be walking about in a hemp shirt and Birkenstocks and no self respecting skateboarder would be caught wearing cowboy boots ( well at least not this week, on the East Coast!)
The majority of folks look to the media and those we admire most for fashion ideas. Where DID Mary get that handbag!? Hey honey, do women really love men in leather? Or, I just have to have those jeans that So and So wore in the last issue of Such and Such.
You can imagine with billions of people putting such importance on their attire how big the industry is that has evolved to meet the demand. Not only is the industry big, it has splintered off into innumerable camps. Most whose paths seldom cross. There is High Fashion, Mainstream Fashion and even anti-fashion. You have your couture, your bridge and your budget off the rack. For some the label is most important for others getting it cheap takes precedent.
In this vast, boiling ocean of the Rag Trade” is a peaceful island of harmony, the world of Vintage. It has something for EVERYONE! It's not unusual for Vintage establishments to represent over 100 years of Fashion language. The audience it attracts comes from all walks of life. Most share one thing in common though and that is the desire for at least some individuality . Even the most diligent trend follower wants to season the look” with a little flavor of their own.
As a Vintage clothing dealer I have the pleasure of meeting such a lovely blend of people. They are all ages, every temperament imaginable, conservative and radical, some have plump wallets others thin. Aside from self expression, there are other reasons my customers seek out Vintage. There are those who lament the lack of craftsman ship in most modern wear and are so pleased to find an affordable source for truly fine, classic apparel.
Some have a quirky nature and want to REALLY stand out in the crowd. Others posses nostalgia for a past era. I have customers who feel the earth needs a rest so they prefer to make use of the things we already have.
