Heres what Political Pulse had to say in the past week through updates it provides free of charge to news media and the public:
FRESNO -- Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante Sunday abandoned virtually all pretense of campaigning against the recall of Gov. Gray Davis, and in fact seemed to be campaigning against Davis before the Democratic faithful, telling a union-heavy crowd of 3,000 supporters, "I will be a governor who will stand up and fight back."
In what amounted to a hometown announcement of his candidacy at the Fresno Convention Center, Bustamante abandoned the "no on recall, yes on Bustamante" pitch that has been Bustamante's message to voters since he entered the race. While buttons and T-shirts on display at the rally still carried that slogan, Bustamante's 30-minute speech did not. "Even if you vote no, you have a right and a responsibility to vote for a candidate for governor," he said in his only reference to the first question voters will face on the recall ballot.
