The Atlanta Blues Society presents
The Third Annual Atlanta Blues Challenge and Holiday Food Drive
Atlanta, GA – November 4th, 2003
The Atlanta Blues Society – a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to preserving and promoting blues music in Atlanta, Georgia, and nationwide – is pleased to announce The Third Annual Atlanta Blues Challenge on Sunday, November 23rd, 2003.
In conjunction with this event, the ABS will be conducting its Annual Holiday Food Drive to benefit The Atlanta Community Food Bank. 1 out of 6 Georgia children are at risk of going hungry at some point each month. 11.6% of Georgia households find themselves needing food assistance at some part of the month. The Atlanta Blues Society has proudly supported this worthy cause every year since its inception.
The Atlanta Blues Challenge is a showcase of some of the most promising up-and-coming blues acts in and around the Atlanta area. Unsigned bands and solo artists will compete for an opportunity to represent Atlanta at the Blues Foundations 2004 International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis where they will compete against more than 80 blues acts from all over the world. The winner of the IBC receives a $25,000 cash prize, studio time, appearances at several major Blues events around the country and the title of "Best Unsigned Blues Band". Some of todays top blues acts, including Sean Costello, Susan Tedeschi, and Richard Johnston have gotten their start as winners of the IBC.
This daylong event will be held at the Knights Of Columbus Hall at 2620 Buford Highway in Atlanta. Approximately 8 acts will perform in front of a panel of judges who will rate them on Talent, Blues Content, Originality, Stage Presence, and Overall Impression. These judges will select two winners – one electric and one acoustic – to represent The Atlanta Blues Society at the IBC in January 2004. Atlanta Blues Challenge winners will also receive a cash prize to assist with their travel expenses for the IBC. Robin Rogers, winner of the Charlotte Blues Challenge, will entertain the audience while the ballots are being tallied.
Tickets are now available online at www.atlantablues.org. Advance ticket prices are $12 of ABS members or $14 for non-members. A $2.00 coupon for food, soft drinks, or ABS merchandise will be given to all advance ticket holders with a donation of two non-perishable food items. Day of show ticket prices are $14 for members and $16 for non-members. A $2.00 discount at the door is available with donations of two non-perishable food items.
