Funding.org, a simple online fundraising tool
Finding donors is tough. Enticing them to donate, is just as difficult. A new Internet site aims to make both steps simpler.
Funding.org has adopted the most basic fundraising model: the common letter. People looking for funds describe their initiative with a two-page synopsis and then submit it to Funding.org who forwards it to thousands of highly qualified donors; people who, if interested, can make a difference. The list includes high net worth business leaders, rich celebrities, corporate staff responsible for philanthropy, government officers as well as thousands of individuals who regularly donate to worthy causes. 90% of individuals on the list have opted in, by choice; they want to receive the appeals.
The novelty of the project is its simplicity. Most Internet sites available to the fundraising community have fallen prey to the temptation of technology. Their databases, forums and chat rooms, are daunting to busy donors. Others, disseminate voluminous funding appeals; not easy reading for those same, busy donors.
In its effort to attract both new donors and needy organizations to the website, Funding.org is actively searching for other Internet sites who wish to help the non-profit world by placing a reciprocal link. The team also plans to engage in an aggressive offline promotional and public relations campaign throughout 2004.
The site is owned and operated by Mondofragilis, a company dedicated to communications and media projects and services for the non-profit sector. One of its offerings, the Mondofragilis Solutions Finder (www.mondofragilis.com/finder/), is a unique multimedia tool that sends video accounts of non-profit activities to potential donors.
