Members of Harleysville Fire Company go to court to stop sale.

Members of Harleysville Community Fire Company have filed a petitions with the Montgomery County Court to stop a proposed sale of assets to VMSC of Lansdale.

Lower Salford, PA (PRWEB) January 25, 2004 --Members of Harleysville Community Fire Company announced today that they have filed a petition with the Montgomery County Court to force a hearing on the proposed sale of the Ambulance Divisions assets to VMSC of Lansdale, PA. The petition was filed on behalf of the membership by Attorney Francis OHara of Norristown. As members of the company we have tried as hard as possible to handle this as an internal matter. At every step of the way Mr. Keith, (President of the Fire Company,) has prevented the membership from voting on the sale. Based on the advice of counsel and the utter disregard for the wishes of the membership we have been forced to enlist the courts in our attempts to put this matter to a vote," said Mike Kalinsky, Deputy Chief of Harleysville Ambulance.

In January a Special Meeting of the Fire Company," of the Fire Company was convened to discuss the sale. The membership was informed that no vote would be taken as the decision of the Executive Board was final. Even with this said a motion was made by Deputy Ambulance Chief Kalinsky and Mr. Jim Reber requesting that a vote be taken by the membership to stop any proposed sale of assets. For more than an hour and a half members queried Mr. Keith as to why they were not allowed to vote on such a serious issue and were told that the decision had been made months before and that Lower Salford Township Supervisors would endorse the decision after a meeting with the leadership of VMSC of Lansdale later that week.

It is the memberships intention with this petition is retain our ability to have our voices heard in the running of the company. All that has been asked for since the announcement was made was to be able to vote. It is the belief of the membership that Mr. Keith recognizes the fact that a vote would be overwhelmingly against any sale. It is even more galling to many of us that Mr. Keith is a non-resident of Harleysville and is not affected by this decision," said Jeff Depew, Battalion Chief of Harleysville Ambulance.
