San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) January 25, 2004 --The Pigman Gallery at 72 Tehama Street (One block south of Howard between 1st and 2nd) will open on February 5th with the empowering work of Malik Seneferu. Seneferu made his start in Hunters Point and has shown his work locally at the Richmond Art Center as well as in Haiti, South Africa and Kenya. Seneferu works with a variety of mediums such as oil pastels, water based paints and mixed media elements. He draws upon political, social and spiritual issues within the black community as well as ancient African Artifacts for much of his inspiration. Seneferu finds the motivation to create art from experiences he had growing up; these experiences have also led to an impressive commitment to working within the Hunters Point Community. Seneferu has and continues to devote the majority of his time to the youth in an often forgotten part of San Francisco.
Seneferu worked with local Hunters Point youth last summer on a mural project called Come Alive". This project brought together youth from the HP Beacon Center and the BayView Hunters Point Foundation. Under his guidance, youth painted murals at Gloria Davis Middle School and on Third Street. In 2001 he and another assistant worked with artist JoeSam. at the Joseph lee Recreation Center in an after-school workshop program. There they helped youth create ceramic tile pieces that were used in JoeSam.s 3700 square foot Wade in Water", which is on display at the Martin Luther King Jr. pool in the BayView District. Seneferu currently works full time at the BayView Hunters Point Foundation as a mentor. He still finds time to create art as a painter, muralist, draughtsman, and book illustrator. The reception for the artist at the Pigman Gallery is on February 5th from 6-9 PM, and the show will be up until March 3rd.
