Finland Biotech Nutrition Company Develops Cure for Hangover

A Finnish biotech nutrition company, famous for heart health products, has developed a cure for the hangover. Taken before bed and in the morning, it removes the biochemical causes of a hangover.

(PRWEB) January 27, 2004 --Hangovers make life miserable. But few people know how they are actually caused. The pain and suffering from hangovers come mainly from two sources. First because the alcohol breaks down into toxic substances within our bodies. And secondly because the alcohol and its byproducts cause free radical damage to our body cells. The result is that we feel terrible. A hangover is really a combination of toxicity plus injured cells.

Finally a means to avoid the biochemical damage and the free radical damage from alchohol has been developed. The product has been three years in the making in Finland.

The substance is a natural bionutrient complex derived from foods by a high technology patent-pending manufacturing process. It helps inhibit the formation of toxic chemicals from alcohol in our body, and helps inhibit free radical damage. The product's effectiveness comes both from its highly targeted biochemical actions, and from its strong inhibition of the harmful biochemical processes resulting from heavy intake of alcohol.

It's been shown in university medical school ex vivo tests to be an incredibly powerful inhibiter of free radicals. In fact, the medical school had never seen anything so effective, even though this new development is nutritional capsule and not a pharmaceutical.

The Finland R&D company, Tampere Bio-Protect Ltd., Tampere, Finland, will produce as well as having developed the product. They are interested in commercial contacts with partners in the EU and North America and other areas.

Project director, Antti V. Koskinen said,"We've decided to seek major customers directly, rather than distributors. Large retail chains, for example. This will keep the cost very reasonable for consumers. We're not a large company, so it's also too dificult to work with many distributors. On that basis we're going for direct sale to retail organizations. I don't know if it's the best strategy, but it fits our size and product to start with."

He indicates that the product will be provided in capsules, and fully packaged, according to the requirements of future commercial partners. It will be produced in the EU in their partner group GMP certified plant. "We're capable of making a lot of it.", said Koskinen. "We think there is a need for this product and it will help people."

When asked how long a package would last a consumer, he said, "There are a total 60 capsules on three foil cards. For most people that could last months. So it's a very cost-effective technology for the consumer."

"This new technology and product also may have some value to industry. It should, for example, reduce sick-days considerably. That means more income for both employees and their employers."

Asked the name of the product, he said, "We don't have a commercial name yet. But we've been considering "SCANDINAVIAN GOOD MORNING" or something similar to that, because it's from Scandinavia and it brings 'good mornings' to the people who use it. Another possibility is a name related to its biochemical structure."

Asked if he thought people would drink more if such a product were on their nutrition shelf, he said, "I don't think so. That's not the purpose. This is for the person who is a causal drinker and occasionally overdoes it. In that case, they could take their natural bio-nutrient capsules before going to sleep, and wake up without a hangover. It means the next day would be a normal day."

When asked about potential problems in registering the product in each country, A. V. Koskinen said; "This product is considered by authorities both in the EU and the United States as a food. We've been working on that, and it's no problem."
