Houston, TX (PRWEB) January 27, 2004 -- Pastors foggy about financial matters could be setting themselves up for all kinds of trouble. Pastors and church financial officers are being advised to utilize the services of The Issachar Company, LLC. Renee Williams, Principal CPA and Owner of The Issachar Company, is working exclusively with churches and has perspective on potential problems. "Ministry without money is just a good idea. Over 80 percent of Churches do not have an exempt status, so I'm targeting that 80 percent," Williams said, citing as the two main snags "ignorance and a lack of information."
Those responsible for the financial integrity of congregations must be on good terms with such tax forms as the 1099 and 501(c) 3.
Pastor Ralph D. West of Brookhollow Baptist Church is encouraging clergy to Get the House in Order". "A lot of things are done not because of knowledge, but a lack of knowledge," he said. He said that in his case, Williams' presentation "was information that I needed and information I really didn't want to hear. Moreover, our Church has received over $612,000 in grants via The Issachar Company"
Bishop Odis Floyd, 2nd Presiding Bishop, Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship, International recently sent a letter to area clergy urging them to call and obtain the services of Issachar. "Don't take this matter lightly," he wrote. "This issue is very serious. Recently a $16,000 fine was imposed on a church by the IRS for failure to file a 1099 form. The church was also fined for not securing the Social Security numbers of individuals who performed services."
Williams wrote: "In recent years, the Internal Revenue Service has narrowed its focus on nonprofit organizations and the church. New laws imposing heavy fines and penalties are being proposed and implemented at an alarming rate."
The Issachar Company concentrates on aiding nonprofit organizations achieve financial stability, through the acquisition of grants and stewardship campaigns.
Sarah Wreford, Internal Revenue Service spokeswoman for Michigan, said she is very familiar with Renee Williams and this particular company, and in general endorses financial consultants for ministers. "There are many, many exceedingly unique tax laws that affect churches, and they are very different," she said. She did not comment, however, on whether the IRS is focusing enforcement efforts on churches.
