Wi-Fi Alliance Endorses Trendsmedias Wireless Security Forum

Wi-Fi Alliance Joins Prominent Media Firms in Supporting the First Conference Focused on Securing Corporate Wireless Networks & Applications

(PRWEB) January 28, 2004 --Trendsmedia, Inc., based in Westborough MA, today announced that the Wi-Fi Alliance has endorsed the Wireless Security Forum: Strategies for Securing Corporate Wireless Networks & Applications. The Forum is scheduled for April 19-21, 2004 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The conference website is www.wsfevent.com.

The Wireless Security Forum is the world's leading conference & technology showcase for:
• Designing and Building Secure Wireless Network Architectures
• Developing Secure Wireless Systems and Applications
• Tracking Emerging Wireless Technology & Standards

The Wi-Fi Alliance (formerly WECA) is the global Wi-Fi organization that created the Wi-Fi brand. A nonprofit organization, the Alliance was formed in 1999 to certify interoperability of IEEE 802.11 products and to promote them as the global, wireless LAN standard across all market segments. The Wi-Fi Alliance has instituted a test suite that defines how member products are tested to certify that they are interoperable with other Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products. These tests are conducted at an independent laboratory. Membership in the Wi-Fi Alliance is open to all companies that support the IEEE 802.11 family of standards. The Wi-Fi Alliance now comprises over 200 members from the worlds leading companies. These companies offer over 900 Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products. For more information, please visit www.wi-fi.org, and for information on Wi-Fi ZONE public access locations go to www.wi-fizone.org.

According to Iain Gillott, conference chair and founder of iGillottResearch, "We are very pleased that the Wi-Fi Alliance has endorsed the Wireless Security Forum. Recently iGillottResearch has published surveys that indicate up to 70% of IT shops that have not yet implemented a wireless application had serious concerns about application security and that 44% of IT executives believe that the lack of security is the greatest obstacle to enterprise wireless/mobile deployments. The Wi-Fi Alliance and its over 200 member companies offer a wide range of robust wireless security solutions that many IT shops may not be aware of. Additionally, the Wi-Fi Alliance has implemented Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) a specification of standards-based, interoperable security enhancements that strongly increase the level of data protection and access control for existing and future wireless LAN systems. The goal of the conference is to discuss end-to-end wireless security strategies and issues in depth that are of concern to all IT professionals involved in pre- and post-pilot wireless implementations."

According to Eliot Weinman, president and founder of Trendsmedia, Inc., Today we are also announcing that the conference has received major endorsements from the leading wireless and security publications in the industry. Wireless Week is the events Official Wireless Publication. MobilePipeline.com is the conferences Official Wireless Newsletter. Other media sponsors include Mobile Enterprise magazine, WirelessWorkforceOnline.com and Softwaremag.com.
