Odessa's Dream: a Black History Musical - benefit play for the Arts
Odessa's Dream is a touching story of two slaves, a mother and daughter who deal with the current harsh realities of their enslavement through the mother's prophetic visions and hopes for the future along with a brief look at the history of African American music. Also includes a special tribute to Motown music legends, The Funk Brothers.
PHILADELPHIA, PA (PRWEB) January 14, 2004 --Diaperman Inc will produce another "Last Friday's Jam Session" benefit show for the Arts event at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and the Performing Arts located at 738 South Broad Street (Avenue of the Arts) on Saturday, March 27, 2004. "Odessa's Dream: a Black History Musical" is a benefit play showcasing local talent and generating resources and support for the Arts. Author and playwright, Mr. Emery G. Saunders, Jr. formerly of the Definity Group Artist Cooperative is bringing his magical tale along with some of the area's brightest talent from Philadelphia and Camden to perform in this soon to be classic.

Doors open at 7:30pm with a networking reception and silent auction featuring memorabilia from the collection of Dr. Licks, author of the book, "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" about legendary bassist James Jamerson and inspiration behind the documentary movie with the same title about Jamerson and the other legendary musicians that comprised Motown's unheralded group of musicians known as the Funk Brothers. Proceeds from the show will benefit Nurturing the Arts Foundation and local youth in the Arts. Funds raised from the silent auction will benefit "The Legacy Program - an Arts Education Series" created by Nurturing the Arts Foundation to develop mentorship between music and artist veterans with young talent with the goal of linking pioneers of the past with the energy of the future.
