(PRWEB) January 2, 2004 --Murder in Marshalls Bayou, the debut novel in a new series by S.H. Baker, has been submitted for consideration for the 2004 Edgar Awards, presented by the Mystery Writers of America.
Murder in Marshalls Bayou is the superbly written story set in the mid-1920s in Louisiana. The protagonist is Dassas Cormier, a former New Orleans policeman who left the force after accidentally killing an innocent bystander. He returns home to Marshalls Bayou, hoping for peace and quiet in order to work through his trauma, only to be thrust into murder and conspiracy.
S.H. Baker has a talent for depicting both her rich setting and her complex characters with an economy and power that one rarely finds in short mystery novels," notes Zumaya Executive Editor Elizabeth K. Burton. The period of the book, that era between World Wars that is all but neglected other than by Fitzgerald, adds an intriguing fillip. As for the main character, Dassas Cormier has enough hidden corners that discovering them is going to make the sequels just as entertaining as this first book."
Murder in Marshalls Bayou is published by Zumaya Publications, a small press based in Burnaby, British Columbia. Zumaya books are distributed through BookSurge (www.booksurge.com) and are available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble Online and, in ebook format, at Fictionwise.
