He decided to start a greeting card company after being laid off from the printing industry. After researching the greeting card industry, he noticed that there were no greeting cards on the market that celebrated urban culture. Relating to urban culture, Jesse set out to form the company. While searching for the name of his company, he reflected back to his childhood days where he grew up in Brooklyn, New York in the neighborhood of Red Hook. He realized that some of his most memorable moments took place in Coffey Park.

Coffey Park is a city park like any other, in the heart of Red Hook where children play and families get together. In the summertime, many people gather to participate in basketball games, play handball, have barbeques and hold annual events. Coffey Park holds memories of friendship, family, companionships and celebrations. Therefore, the name Coffey Park Greetings was chosen. Families and friends use greeting cards to express themselves and they should be able to relate to greeting cards and have a connection to what is being said. Coffey Park Greetings, L.L.C. fills that void in the greeting card industry. The greeting cards speak from an urban perspective and the lifestyle, environment and experience of African-American, Latino, and Hip Hop culture is reflected through images and verse.
