By Gerard

The Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Health Centers Annual Advisory Board Health Conference, Step Into Health -The Ever Changing Human Virus," was a huge success on September 25th. Along with P.B.G.'s Productions, Dreams Are Nothing More Than Plans Awaiting Action," hearing the message about HIV/AIDS, the young and old in this troubled community of Wyandanch, New York, was able to get the message with a twist. With a variety of speakers and special performing guests like Jenelle Chin, SGIB magazines November/December cover artist, El-Malik, the former lead singer for Motowns 1970s female Motown group, 7669, and making his first L.I. appearance, Chris Curry, who writes for SGIB magazine and has performed with Ray, Goodman & Brown / The Moments ("Love On A Two Way Street", "Special Lady"); had the whole house singing the classics along with the young people. Dont worry about our music history being lost; watching the young people sing classic R&B songs along with Chris, they were listening. This event was at the Wyandanch/Wheatley Heights Ambulance Corp. 295 Merritt Ave., Wyandanch, NY 11798. Others involved with the focus on the adolescent population. Eileen Daley, Np discussed the transmission and prevention of the Virus. Howard Balbi, M.D. discussed the disease and treatment process. Julie Helberg-Hirsch spoke on the Partner Notification Assistance Program. Karin Timour informed the audience of the benefits of the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP). We also had a speaker, Alita Hall, from the Wyndanch Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program discuss details of their program.

295 Merritt Ave., Wyandanch, NY 11798.
