(PRWEB) January 5, 2004 --Dr Lawrence, of Body Active Chiropractic Clinics, Essex & Surrey, is urging everyone to improve their posture before beginning their New Years resolution to get fit.
Stand up straight! -- your mother probably told you and she was right. Good posture helps your body function better, keeps your muscles from getting sore and can help your performance at sport and everyday activities. It also affects organ function and even your ability to breathe effectively," said Dr Stuart Lawrence, Doctor of Chiropractic.
As many people resolve to begin a regular exercise regime, they run the risk of injuring themselves or exacerbating existing problems if they do not first tackle their spinal health. What is good posture? Good posture is the position your body is in when one side of your body works as hard as its opposite side - this also means front and back. If you were to drop a straight line from your ear, it should pass through your shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle. Your head should not be out in front of your shoulders, your back shouldn't arch or bend forward. Your shoulders and hips should be at an even level.
Dr Lawrence advises: Before you begin an exercise program consult a professional to make sure your routine won't put wear and tear on malfunctioning spinal joints. Even without obvious symptoms, poor posture and improper spinal function can diminish the benefits of a toning and strengthening exercise routine."
Throughout January 2004, Body Active Chiropractic Clinics are offering readers a free 10-minute spinal health check with advice on posture and safe exercise routines. Call 0800 389 4047 mentioning this article to book a free spinal check.
