FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On the heels of its successful annual book awards, Writers Notes announced the Writers Notes Writing Awards, open to new fiction and nonfiction. Winners will be published in the fall 2004 issue of Writers Notes Magazine. (Details at www.WritersNotes.com; entries due by August 31, 2004)
Were looking for new voices to feature in our magazine," says senior editor Christopher Klim. My publisher gave me the opportunity to run with it, and unlike some awards where you never really know who won and why, we plan to publish all of the winners."
Writers Notes Magazine houses a combination of stories, articles, and essays, including sketches from graphic artists and photo essays. Much like the website at www.WritersNotes.com, the magazine format appeals to a broad range of contemporary writers and readers. The premiere issue of the magazine is free to download and can be purchased as an e-book or in paperback.
While Klims not shepherding the magazine, hes an author and journalist. His acclaimed first novel, Jesus Lives in Trenton, broke the rules by selling thousands of copies from a small press. The anticipated sequel, Everything Burns, is set for a March release. In his latest, photojournalist Boot Means chases a serial arsonist across Texas.
Its the second in a planned trio of books," Klim explains. "Boot Means is a product of foster care. I wanted to take a marginalized member of society and place him in three diverse scenarios. An unorthodox photojournalist lends himself to that format."
The book is already garnering raves:
Klim manages to integrate wisecracking characters and dramatic action without confusing the reader. Though not an easy task, he has employed the same engaging combination of contrasts that we enjoyed in such shows as MASH and NYPD Blue." -Maggie Harding, Book Crazy Radio
Everything Burns is just as good as, if not better than, its illustrious predecessor. ... the bullet train of his prose is even slicker and sexier than it was the last time. ... I particularly adore above all else in Mr. Klims voluminous literary arsenal: his staccato, terse, jerkily brilliant array of dialogue." -Jason Price Everett, The Circle Magazine
Everything Burns is Klim's second novel featuring Boot Means--raised in foster care, an outsider yet resourceful and wise beyond his years, a unique and potent character who is earning his place in the pantheon of mythic American legends." -Robert Gover, author One Hundred Dollar Misunderstanding
Everything Burns secures Boot Means as a recurring character and Klim as a distinct voice in mainstream fiction. This book will linger with me for a long while." -Linnea Jones, NYC editor
