Small Town in Texas Wins National Title In National Online American Dream Town Contest
The nationwide contest, devised by Ingrid Lemme of Montauk, L.I., and in its first year, seeks to bring attention to small towns in the country worth visiting.
(PRWEB) January 8, 2004 --The contest organizers identified three communities in each state, with the winners chosen by people who visited the American Dream Town website and voted for the town of their choice.
The overall winner, Glen Rose, Texas, which calls itself as "the dinosaur capital of the world," got the most votes with 52,501, while second place went to tiny Taylor, Neb. The town received 45,129 votes, third is St. Marys, Ga., with its 11,979 votes.
Some towns around the country that are considered tourist magnets received surprisingly low vote totals, including Carmel, Calif., 47 votes; Kailua, Hawaii, 90 votes; Woodstock, Vt., 4 votes; and Stockbridge, Mass., 8 votes.
Lemme attributed the low numbers to the contest being new and because residents in many states did not know about it.
She hopes American Dream Town 2005 will attract many more voters once the book, "American Dream Town, 2004" is published by Random House in May, featuring all 50 winners with Glen Rose as the centerpiece.
Lemme, also has a weekly television show in the Hamptons called American Dream Show, and Glen Rose which receives all the orginal web-art (created by the internationally reknowned artist THITZ)has been scheduled for an upcoming segment.
