Montebello School Board Member and Assembly Candidate Hector Chacon to speak at Junior Chamber luncheon.
NORWALK (PRWEB) January 8, 2004 -- The California Junior Chamber announced today that its keynote speaker at its first annual Leadership Luncheon on Saturday, January 10th, 2004 will be Montebello School Board Member Hector Chacon, a current candidate for State Assembly. Hector Chacon was raised in the Ramona Gardens Housing Projects, in East Los Angeles by a single mother. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School and was an Honor Roll student at East Los Angeles Community College. Chacon is also Magna Cum Laude and Phi Kappa Phi member at the California State University of Dominguez Hills.
In November 1993, at 26 years old, Chacon was elected to the Montebello Unified School District Board of Education, making history by becoming the youngest person ever elected to serve on the Board. In 1996, Chacon served as President and guided the district, which was on the verge of bankruptcy back into financial stability.
In November of 1997, Chacon was re-elected to serve on the school board for a second term. In April of 1998, Chacon was instrumental in passing a 92 million-dollar school bond, making the Montebello Unified School District one of the first districts in over 20 years to pass a local school bond in California.
After serving 10 years on the Board of Education for one of California's largest unified school districts, Chacon has officially decided to run for the 50th State Assembly seat in the March 2004 Democratic Primary.
