Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) January 10, 2004 --USBA (Uniformed Services Benefit Association), today, sent out its call for applications for its annual William A. Dietrich Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship awards a non-renewable $2,000 grant to selected individuals who are children of USBA’s members. Applications must be received at USBA headquarters no later than March 31, 2004.

"Chief among the eligibility rules is that the applicant must be a child, stepchild or foster child of a USBA member," says USBA’s Vice President of Human Resources, Chief Master Sergeant Ronald W. Culver, USAF (Ret.). "A USBA member is any eligible person who owns one of our insurance policies and there is no time limit on how long the member has been with us."

The scholarship was created to honor retired Air Force Major General Bill Dietrich who was president of USBA when he died. Dietrich also was a charter member of USBA, going back to its inception in 1959, and was first elected to the Board of Governors in 1972.

"It is the spirit of his friendship and leadership which we choose to memorialize with this scholarship," notes USBA’s current President/CEO, Rear Admiral Larry G. Vogt, U.S. Navy, (Ret.). "I especially enjoy the fact that we are honoring his memory by honoring the children of our membership."

Culver says that the money awarded may be used at the recipient's discretion for tuition, room and board. "Grants will be sent directly to the institution the recipient plans to attend," he explains. "They are awarded based upon established criteria qualifications."

To qualify, as a grant recipient, the applicant must:
 Be a child, stepchild or foster child of a USBA member in good standing both at the time of application and on scholarship payment date, if selected.
 Be a graduating high school senior.
 Display good character and citizenship.
 Rank in top 20% of high school class. Extra-curricular activities will be a consideration.
 Provide a high school transcript through the first semester of senior year if possible.
 Provide a recommendation by high school principal or guidance counselor.
