Along The Florida Trail
For the first time, the stunning Florida Trail is captured in a gorgeous photography book! A collaborative effort by renowned nature photographer Bart Smith & veteran nature writer Sandra Friend.
Denver, CO (PRWEB) January 11, 2004 --Westcliffe Publishers announced the release of ALONG THE FLORIDA TRAIL, a collaborative effort by renowned nature photographer Bart Smith and veteran nature writer Sandra Friend.
A ribbon of green twisting through the Sunshine State, The Florida Trail stretches 1300 miles from the Big Cypress National Preserve just north of the Everglades to the Gulf Islands National Seashore near Pensacola. It travels north-south through the center of the state and east-west along the Florida Panhandle. The Florida Trail began in 1964 with the dream of Florida Trail Association founder Jim Kern, who described Florida’s vast tracts of wilderness as a landscape comparable in its stark beauty to the Serengeti in Africa. In November of 1988 it was officially designated a Florida National Scenic Trail.
ALONG THE FLORIDA TRAIL is the first large-format photography book to chronicle the Florida Trail on its journey northward. Bart Smith’s spectacular full-color images and Sandra Friend’s inviting trailside accounts detail the experience of exploring the state’s tropical and semitropical ecosystems. This unsung wilderness is home to as many dangers as wonders. Said Smith when he decided to hike and photograph the trail, “Gators and spiders and snakes, oh my!” Yet the trail beckons, and Friend and Smith set out to prove why. Images of beautiful sunsets, unique wildlife, palm hammocks and moss-draped live oaks create a magnificent backdrop for Friend’s humorous, poignant, and inspiring tales that unfold along the trail. Human history colors the route, too, as it passes through Seminole lands, Civil War sites, and long-abandoned homesteads.
ALONG THE FLORIDA TRAIL features 140 full-color scenic photographs, insightful journal-style trail vignettes, and information on how one can help support the Florida Trail.
From the splash of an alligator to the crash of turquoise waves on white sands, ALONG THE FLORIDA TRAIL captures the essence of this unmatched footpath for those who know and love it, and for all who cherish our country’s wild lands.
