Dean Says Loss of Health Care for 1.6 Million Americans Another Example of the Bush Tax" Helping Wealthy

"This President continues to shift costs from the federal government to states and communities and, through massive borrowing, to our children and grandchildren. This really amounts to a 'Bush Tax' that all of us are paying in higher local taxes, service cuts and huge future deficits," said Governor Dean. http://www.deanforamerica.com

Rochester, NH (PRWEB) January 11, 2004 --Democratic presidential candidate Governor Howard Dean, M.D., said a new report shows up to 1.6 million low-income Americans have lost health coverage over the last two years. Dean cites this as "another example of the price we're paying for this President's uncaring economic policy."

According to the non-partisan Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), the Bush administrations policies are forcing states and localities to make major cuts in programs like Medicaid and the State Childrens Health Insurance Program. The non-partisan Center estimates that the cuts in these programs have affected between 1.2 and 1.6 million low-income people, including about a half million children.

"It is immoral for our government to fund tax breaks of $112,000 for millionaires, while cutting half a million children off their health insurance.

"We need a new social contract in America that guarantees basic, essential rights for all, including health coverage for every man, woman and child."

"This President continues to shift costs from the federal government to states and communities and, through massive borrowing, to our children and grandchildren. This really amounts to a 'Bush Tax' that all of us are paying in higher local taxes, service cuts and huge future deficits," said Governor Dean.
