South Palm Beach Branch NAACP celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and community leaders
The South Palm Beach Branch NAACP is hosting an inugural Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Disntinguished Award Program. The event will celebrate the legacy of Dr. King and recognize various leaders for their accomplishments in the areas of education, economic empowerment, community development and advocacy.
(PRWEB) January 13, 2004 --On Thursday, February 5, 2004, 7:00 pm, the South Palm Beach Branch of the NAACP will be holding an inugural Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Award Program at the Duncan Theatre, Palm Beach Community College. The event will celebrate the legacy of Dr. King and recognize various leaders in the areas of education, economic empowerment, community development and advocacy. In addition, scholarships will be given in the name of Dr. Mary DuPont as well as winners of the essay competition on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. The 2004 awardees are the following: Dr. Dennis P. Gallon, President of Palm beach Community College., Ms. Elizabeth Wesley, the founder of ROOTS Festival., Mrs. Gertrude Green, founder of the local NAACP Branch., Ms. Connie Berry, the Presdient of the Migrant Association of South Florida., Mr. Shahid Freeman, Community Activist, Attorney Bob Montgomery from the Law Firm of Montgomer & Larson., Rev. Mathieu Jean Baptiste of the Haitian Economic Community Association, Pastor Lance Chaney and Mrs. Sara Williams of the Boynton Beach Community Forum, Dr. Mary Ann DuPont, Assistant Superintendent for the Palm Beach County School District and Mrs. Marjorie M. Lim Sang, Vice President, Wachovia Bank, Boca Raton. Palm Beach Community College is a co-sponsor of the event. There is a $50.00 contribution for adults and $20.00 for students. Seating is limited. Advance ticket purchases are encouraged.
