Project Linus NJ Inc. Turns Five
"Partners In Healing, On A Mission of Hope"
New Jersey charity celebrates five years comforting fragile children throughout the state. Project Linus NJ, Inc. volunteers are partners in healing, on a heartfelt mission of hope.
(PRWEB) January 13, 2004 --Since 1999, Project Linus NJ, Inc.,a 100% volunteer 501c3 nonprofit, has donated handmade blankets and handcrafted toys to children suffering serious illness and trauma from birth to seventeen years of age.
The caring hearts and willing hands of over 3,800 blanket makers, delivery drivers and good news angels keeps this busy organization running. Since establishing in 1999, more than 25,000 fragile children have received comfort through the donation of a handmade hug." This year, PLNJ celebrates five years of comforting kids!
The blankets are made in volunteers' homes and left at ten drop-off points around the state. The group regularly furnishes 162 nonprofit agencies, hospitals and homeless shelters with hand machine-sewn or crocheted blankets, quilts and handmade toys. Events, workshops and knit-ins are scheduled during the year.
In 1999, PLNJ President, Hillary Roberts read an article about Project Linus, a national nonprofit organization named after the blankie-besotted Peanuts comic strip character. "I could immediately relate to the comfort a blanket offers," says Roberts. She called everyone sheąd ever seen with a needle or crochet hook. In short order seven friends and her mother-in-law were gathered in her living room. But Roberts wasnąt interested in starting a quilting klatch. She got on the web and posted a notice "blanket makers of all ages welcome" on sites like www.volunteermatch.com. As "blanketeers" came out of the woodwork, she quickly realized she needed an organization of her own.
Blanket makers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate and should contact, Hillary Roberts for more information.
