San Jose, Costa Rica (PRWEB) January 16, 2004 --Lidersoft, a leading Costa Rican provider of IT services and a provider of IT services to the U.S. marketed under the IsThmus" brand, today announced that they have attained Level 3 Capability Maturity Model (CMM) certification for its software engineering practices. Lidersoft/IsThmus becomes the second company in Central America to be assessed at this level.
Developed by Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute (SEI), the Capability Maturity Model for Software provides a five-step evolutionary framework for measuring and improving an organization's software development efforts. CMM Level 3 certification reflects the ability of Lidersoft/IsThmus to consistently apply software engineering and project management processes across its IT project portfolio. Lidersoft/IsThmus Level 3 certification was achieved on the basis of two-week assessment conducted by Global Systems Technology (GST). GST, U.S- based assessors who conducted this rigorous assessment, found Lidersoft/IsThmus' software solutions business to be performing at SEI-CMM Level 3.
"Continuous improvement is a by-word of quality management, and our success in moving from Level 2 to Level 3 CMM certification reflects our commitment to applying rigorous quality management standards in the technology-related areas of our operation," said Johnny Vega, CEO of Lidersoft/IsThmus. "With eCommerce becoming an increasingly important aspect of the solutions we provide to our customers, the improvements we've made in our software engineering practices will further enhance our ability to deliver solutions that meet or exceed our customers' needs. By taking this important step, Lidersoft/IsThmus is giving its customers further assurance that it has the software engineering practices in place needed to develop technology solutions on a consistent, predictable, and high-quality basis. Achieving the SEI CMM Level 3 rating shows that the foundation is in place at Lidersoft/IsThmus to execute programs requiring the highest levels of software development."

About SEI and CMM
The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense through the office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics. The SEI contract was competitively awarded to Carnegie Mellon University in December 1984.
The U.S. Department of Defense established the Software Engineering Institute to advance the practice of software engineering because quality software that is produced on schedule and within budget is a critical component of U.S. defense systems. The SEI mission is to provide leadership in advancing the state of the practice of software engineering to improve the quality of systems that depend on software. The SEI accomplishes this mission by promoting the evolution of software engineering from an ad hoc, labor-intensive activity to a discipline that is well managed and supported by technology.
