SMC Introduces Two New High Power Wireless PCI Cards
New EliteConnect 2.4GHz 802.11b and 2.4GHz/5GHz 802.11a/b/g High Power Wireless PCI Cards provide longer range with greater signal clarity for better wireless networking quality and throughput
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) January 16, 2004 --SMC Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the Enterprise, the SMB and all the way home, today introduced the newest members of its award-winning EliteConnect High Power family of wireless networking products: the SMC2512W-B EliteConnect 2.4GHz 802.11b High Power Wireless PCI Card and the SMC2512W-AG EliteConnect Universal 2.4GHz/5GHz High Power Wireless PCI Card. The new SMC2512W-B High Power Wireless PCI Card increases mobility and flexibility for wireless networking by providing 802.11b connectivity with up to 200 milliWatts (mW) of transmit power -- nearly four times the power of standard PCI Cards and twice the power offered by any other wireless 802.11b PCI Card on the market today. The SMC2512W-AG brings 100mW of power with Universal connectivity-it connects to any 802.11a, b or g wireless network. The SMC2512W-B will be available in January at an MSRP of $109.99; and the SMC2512W-AG will be available in February at an MSRP of $129.99.
As the highest-powered PCI cards on the market today, the new SMC2512W-B and SMC2512W-AG feature both high transmit power and excellent receive sensitivity. With operating ranges of up to 2,700 and 2,145 feet, respectively, the SMC EliteConnect 802.11b High Power Wireless PCI Card and SMC EliteConnect Universal 802.11a/b/g High Power Wireless PCI Card overcome significant indoor multipath distortion to provide dramatic improvements in wireless signal quality and throughput. The already superior range of the SMC2512W-B can be increased even farther by attaching an optional high-gain antenna (SMCANT-OM5) to one of the two available MMCX connectors.
The included EZ Installation Wizard makes setting up the SMC2512W-B and SMC2512W-AG quick and easy. Fully compliant with IEEE 802.11 standards, they can be configured to operate in Ad-hoc (Peer-to-Peer) or Infrastructure (communication to the wired network via an Access Point) mode. The SMC2512W-B operates seamlessly on any 802.11b or 802.11g network; the SMC2512W-AG on any 802.11-compliant wireless network -- a, b, or g. Profile management software lets users of the new high power wireless PCI Cards save multiple wireless profiles, and its built-in scanning utility detects and displays available wireless access points on the network. Connections on the SMC2512W-B are secured with 64/128-bit WEP encryption; the SMC2512W-AG uses 64/128/152-bit WEP encryption. Both also support the new Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and user authentication via RADIUS 802.1x, EAP LEAP and PEAP to ensure that only authorized users can access the resources of the wireless network.
Were excited to add PCI versions of our highly-successful, award-winning High Power wireless network adapter to the portfolio of SMC wireless products," said SMC Networks Product Manager Betty Chan. Range and security are the two biggest issues in wireless networking today, and the new SMC2512W-B and SMC2512W-AG EliteConnect High Power Wireless PCI Cards excel at both."
