Thegriot.Com Launches Giving African American Webusers Unprecedented Access To Black Businesses, News, And Events

Des Moines-based Public Press LLC has launched a website targeted toward African-Americans called TheGriot.com (pronounced GREE-O), that will for the first time bring comprehensive access to African-American focused articles, events, and business and organization 'yellow-page listings into one central online location.

Des Moines, IA (PRWEB) January 19, 2004 --Des Moines-based Public Press LLC has launched a website targeted toward African-Americans called TheGriot.com (pronounced GREE-O), that will for the first time bring comprehensive access to African-American focused articles, events, and business and organization 'yellow-page listings into one central online location.

Through providing national and local-based news, and a large and searchable database of events including concerts, theater, and professional events, and businesses in 17 U.S. major cities including Atlanta, Washington DC, New York, LA, Chicago, Houston, New Orleans, Charlotte, and more, the founders of TheGriot.com hope to build a valuable resource for the fast growing number of African-American web users.

TheGriot.com was started by mother and son team Gaylene and Allen Narcisse in December 2003, who saw the need for better organized and more comprehensive information for African Americans online. There are several outstanding websites for African Americans right now, but what really sets TheGriot.com apart is how easy it is to find so much of African-American culture and information in one easy to use website," says Gaylene Grubb, co-founder and business manager. Whether youre new to a city and looking for a new hair salon, or if you want to know the next time Erykah Badu will be in concert in your area, you can now find that and current African-American news in one website."

The website, thegriot.com is named for the traditional storyteller from western Africa who perpetuated the oral history of a village or family. The founders of TheGriot.com, would like to look back on the site in 10 years and say that we took a step beyond building a strong online community for African Americans," says Allen Narcisse, co-founder and CEO. We would like to say that not only did we become a home for African Americans online, but that we recorded the pulse of the African American culture and economy."
