Upward Pressure On Cost Of Internet Traffic Intensified

Nationally recognized search engine marketing executive says need to place greater emphasis on natural/organic positions becoming greater.

Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) January 18, 2004 --With the cost of Paid Placement (Positioning) programs escalating, nationally recognized Search Engine Marketing executive, Andrew Wetzler is recommending a greater emphasis on Natural / Organic positioning, which generates free traffic in engines that include Google and AOL.

As a featured speaker at the recent Search Engine Marketing Strategies conference in Chicago, Wetzler, President of MoreVisibility, gave a presentation titled "Balancing Paid and Organic Listings."

"There is concern about the upward pressure on the cost of search traffic, which is especially true for the more competitive categories of keywords," said Wetzler. "To offset the increasing cost of Paid Placement programs such as Overture and Google AdWords, greater emphasis should be placed on Natural / Organic positioning, which generates free traffic positions."

Wetzler compared Search Engine Marketing (SEM) to the popular board game Monopoly.

"Just like in Monopoly, the goal of SEM is to control as much real estate as possible on any search query," Wetzler said. "The greater your coverage, the greater your opportunity to be seen by individuals searching for particular keywords / phrases. That being said, traffic has to make sense from a Return on Investment (ROI) perspective. Natural / Organic positioning is an excellent way to counter-balance the costs associated with Paid Placement."
