Father-Daughter writing team publish an adventure tale, A WIZARD NAMED WESLEY!

Call it a dream come true, Call it hard work. Call it father and daughter bonding time. But whatever it is called , the time spent together has been productive for the father and daughter writing team of Kevin and Rachel Kirsch.

(PRWEB) January 20, 2004 --"I wanted to write a story," says Rachel Kirsch, now 12, who says she "had lots of ideas, but I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted, exactly. I didn't think it would go anywhere."
In true, helpful-parent fashion, Kevin stepped in and helped his daughter firm up a story plot, and the writing team was born. The result is "A Wizard Named Wesley," published by 1stBooks in late November 2003.
The story follows Wesley, a boy who accidentally finds out he is a wizard, after he finds his mother's magic wand. After his parents tell him the truth, he attends Dreamford University, a Bermuda Triangle school for wizards.

Rachel even put one of her teachers into the story as one of the books' characters. "I told Rachel that if she finished writing the story, we would have it published," says Kevin. Between the idea and the book came much work. "I would think of something for the next part of the story at school," says Rachel. "When I got home, I would talk about it with my dad, and see if it fit into the story right."

"Sometimes, the two of us even came up with exactly the same idea," adds Kevin. "Those times were fun, because it seemed like the ideas would just take off." Kevin gives his daughter most of the credit for the book. "Although we have an equal part in writing the book, she is a lot better typist than I am!" he says. "She is also very good in writing, is on the honor roll, and has a school average in the 90s." "But, you still have to have an imagination," Rachel adds.

The book is dedicated to Rachel's grandfather, the late Terrence Frank Kirsch of Holland, who died in a four-wheeler accident in 2002.
"I handed the book to one of my teachers, and she said, 'That's a nice book.' Then I asked her, 'Do you see who the author is?'" says Rachel. "She was so excited!" Rachel says it "took a long time" to get started on the book, but things have moved faster recently. "I already have a sequel, 'A Wizard Named Wesley II,' but it's not published yet."
And, she has already begun another book, "The Inlanders," a tale about a boy who falls into an imaginary world while looking for a lost cow.
In the meantime, the 300-plus-page book has garnered more than a few fans. "A friend's nephew, who received the book as a Christmas present, has read it three times, and is telling everyone he meets that they need to read the book," Kevin says.

It is available online, at 1stbooks.com, or through online bookstores, and is sold in both hardcover and paperback editions.
This book even has its own website devoted to the book. There is a fun quiz at the site and even more information on the book and links to a free preview! That site is: http://wizardnamedwesley.tripod.com
Now that her first book has been published, Rachel says she is "going to keep on writing."

"I have so many ideas, but I need to think of them one at a time," she says. Rachel adds that she has learned much through the writing, editing, and publishing processes. "When you read this book it is almost like watching a movie in your head. You have to learn how to really describe things, so people can picture them in their minds," she says. "You have to keep working on it, too," she adds. "If you don't, it won't ever get finished." Rachel, who says she "kind of feels like a celebrity," also does book signings. The inscription of choice? "The imagination is a magical thing!"
