Dermatological Drug Market Races Toward $10 Billion Mark

The worldwide market for prescription dermatological drugs continues to be dynamic and growing, according to a new study released today from Kalorama Information. With some segments displaying nearly 30% annual growth, the market will surpass the $10 billion mark by 2007.

New York, (PRWEB) February 2, 2004 - The worldwide market for prescription dermatological drugs continues to be dynamic and growing, according to a new study released today from Kalorama Information. With some segments displaying nearly 30% annual growth, the market will surpass the $10 billion mark by 2007.

The new study, The Worldwide Market for Prescription Dermatological Drugs, 4th Edition, notes that since the last Kalorama study of the area, the star segments have shifted. Hair loss drugs and anti-aging drugs were the explosive segments in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but the next five years will see a slowing of these areas and an acceleration in others, such as psoriasis and skin cancer.

"No question that the anti-aging, hair loss and removal, and other cosmetic segments are still very lucrative," notes Steven Heffner, Acquisitions Editor for Kalorama Information. "But the exciting news in the coming three years will be in new biologics for the treatment of serious skin conditions such as psoriasis and melanoma. There are more than 20 melanoma vaccines in the phase II or later and virtually all of the big biotechs-Amgen, Genentech, Biogen-are weighing in with psoriasis therapeutics."

The study provides ten years of data from 1998 to 2008 for 9 major categories of dermatological drugs and 24 subcategories, as well as epidemiology, geographical revenue breakdowns, and competitive market share information. Market analysis includes reviews of the major products on the market and in development, and discussions of major business, clinical, and regulatory trends and issues. Profiles of the top 20 competitors rounds out the comprehensive 400-page report.
