IBCS Preclinical Development Forum Offers Rare Site Tour of Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research

IBCs inaugural Preclinical Development Forum to be held February 23-25, 2004 at the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge, MA is offering the rare opportunity to tour the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research Facility.

Westborough, MA (PRWEB) February 2, 2004 --IBCs inaugural Preclinical Development Forum to be held February 23-25, 2004 at the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge, MA is offering the rare opportunity to tour the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research Facility. The Institute is a non-profit, independent research and educational institution with pathfinding programs in cancer and infectious disease research, drug discovery, genetics and genomics, protein biology, developmental biology, and transgenic science. Active in both basic research and technology development, Whitehead has signed more than 100 licensing agreements, transferring intellectual property to industry, ranging from AIDS vaccine candidates to novel robotic technologies. The Institute continues to fill industrys pipeline with intellectual property that many biopharmaceutical leaders expect will play a key role in the industrys next wave of innovation.

The tour will be led by Richard A. Young, a member of the Whitehead Institute and a professor of biology at MIT, a pioneer in gene transcription, the process by which cells read and interpret the genetic instructions embedded in DNA. The Young lab also uses DNA arrays and other state-of-the-art genomic tools to map the genome-wide circuitry of living cells and to study infectious diseases. Achievements include novel AIDS vaccine candidates and new approaches to drug-resistant tuberculosis.

Focusing on applying scientific advances and organizational strategies at the interface of discovery and development, the Preclinical Development Forum contains comprehensive full day programs on pharmaceutical profiling, animal models in target validation & efficacy studies, strategies for early ADME/PK & clinical studies, animal models for novel gene targets, preclinical toxicology & pharmacology, and biomarkers & metabolite identification.

One of the many highlights of this event will include the Keynote Address Mouse Model Research in the Post-Genome Era" to be given by Richard P. Woychik, Ph.D., Director at Jackson Laboratory. An interactive open forum will feature five panelists to discuss The Pros and Cons of Various Probe Substrates for Cytochrome P450 Drug Interaction Assays. Additional Panel Discussions to take place are How Can we Drive Earlier Clinical Studies? Whats Currently Missing?" and Emerging Directions in Biotransformation Studies."
